Every unit has skills that are defined by their class and also proficiency with special weapons.Pressing X on your 3DS during battle will let you see everywhere the opposing army can move and strike. Also: if Alm/Celica dies, the Timewheel can't fix that and it's an automatic game over. It has a limited number of uses and is best used to fix a mistake and save a unit or take another shot when your character misses in battle. The Timewheel, which lets you go back turns in battle, is useful but it won't save you all the time.To heal people after that, you can either do it the old-fashioned way with set spellcasters being healers, or you can just keep your units close to Alm/Celica, which then opens up a Provisions menu, giving anyone adjacent to your leader the ability to access all the food in the convoy and eat it to restore health. You can make your characters hold on to food if you want them to have a healing item on hand, but eventually you'll want everyone to have upgraded weapons and items. In the early hours of the game, it's best to give your characters food they can use to heal themselves until upgraded items come along. When you get access to rings that grant stats buffs, give those to your mages and clerics and spellcaster types. It's usually best to make this an upgraded weapon for combat characters. If you really want to do an Iron Man playthrough where you live with your losses when they happen, cool, but you're probably going to find yourself in an unwinnable gamestate if this is your first run. Consider save scumming if you're playing on Classic.Trust me: in the final levels of the game, you do not want one of the two armies underpowered. Keep their battle ratings on equal level. As you're switching between perspectives during the campaign, be sure you're leveling up both Alm and Celica's armies at about the same pace.Upgrading equipment is just as important as leveling up in Echoes. You will return to that blacksmith many times over to upgrade your weapons. That village that has a blacksmith in it? Remember where it is on the map. You can view cutscenes in the Timewheel menu. Look for glowing sparkles in the background of dungeons and villages and click on them with your cursor to unlock the cutscene. These don't give you any gameplay benefit but they do unlock cutscenes you can watch that help fill in backstory for characters. There are memory prisms everywhere for you to find.Leave no place unexplored, whether it's a dungeon or village. There are usually useful items (like health restoration foods, valuables, and even rare weapons) hidden about. Examine every environment you come across using the hand icon. All it takes is one mistake to lose hours of progress, so save often. But look: This game is ridiculously hard. Class changes are available early on for your units and each class shift marks a substantial boost in power for a character so be sure to return to shrines often to get your character to the next power level. Go to a dungeon and grind levels for all your characters, not just your favorites. If you're going up against a powerful enemy in a story mission and getting wrecked, chances are you're under leveled. Grind grind grind like there's no tomorrow. Don't expect Alm or Celica to get through the game on their own power. All of your units more or less need to have the same relative battle rating in order to function properly. In Awakening and Fates, you could get away with have one or two powerhouses surrounded by middling units. If that doesn't bother you, great! Just know what you're getting yourself into since you can't change difficulty once your game has started. It's likely that if you make a bad decision followed up by a poor save, you could very well make your game unwinnable. Every unit loss is a crushing blow to your army and resources. However, Echoes gives you less characters than you had to work with than in Fates and Awakening. Yes, it's hip and cool to play Fire Emblem on Classic, where your characters die for good once they perish in battle. Do not be afraid to play on an easier setting.Failure is a harsh teacher, but I've brought back many lessons from my time with the game that will hopefully help keep you in one piece. Fire Emblem has always been brutal, but even by series standards Echoes is just downright nasty – especially for new players. ![]()

The other taxes we mentioned before may have different filing or payment requirements outside of the traditional tax season, but it's vital information to have organized throughout the year. We can't say this enough: organization is the key to successful tax prep.Īs we move forward, the information on the checklist applies primarily to year-end income taxes, the ones due in March or April. Organization is one of the best ways to get through tax season without losing your hair or throwing your computer at the wall. How do I prepare my small business for tax season? Now that you're familiar with the types of taxes you might come across, let's get to the checklist. Usually, you’ll send it quarterly and complete a sales tax return to submit with your payment. You’ll typically collect sales tax from a customer at the time of purchase and send your sales tax payments to the state. This is a state tax paid on selling certain goods and services. You can find a complete list of excise taxes on the IRS website. If you deal in any of the following, excise taxes may apply to you. States vary, so check with yours for the rate.Įxcise taxes are imposed on certain goods and services, and not all businesses have to pay them. The federal unemployment tax rate is 6% on the first $7,000 of each employee's wage every year. Federal and state unemployment tax: You have to pay federal and, in most cases, state unemployment taxes. Most states have their version of a W-4, and you’ll use that to calculate their state income tax withholding. Federal and state income tax withholding: As part of payroll, you have to withhold federal income taxes for your employees based on their Form W-4 information. And your employee will have identical amounts withheld from their paycheck. Your part is 6.2% for Social Security and 1.45% for Medicare. Social Security and Medicare taxes (FICA): Remember that 15.3% rate from above? It applies here as well, only now you pay half, and the employee pays half. But it also means you have some employment taxes to take care of, and you need them to be correct. If your business does well enough to support employees, congratulations. Half of the self-employment tax is deductible on your tax return, so you only pay the "employee" portion of the tax –the same as you'd pay as a regular W-2 employee. For 2022, the wage limit is $147,000, which means if your business’s taxable income is above this amount, you only pay Medicare tax on the overage. Social Security has a wage limit that changes each year. The self-employment tax rate is a flat 15.3%, which breaks down to 12.4% for Social Security and 2.9% for Medicare. If you own a sole proprietorship or an LLC, the IRS slaps you with self-employment taxes based on your business's taxable income. Self-employment taxesīeing self-employed doesn't mean you get to skip out on those FICA payroll taxes you paid as a W-2 employee. They can get a bit complicated, so using a tax pro can save you the headache of figuring it all out. As you might expect, states like New York, Massachusetts, and California have higher state taxes, so consider this when starting your business.Īlso, keep in mind that if you do business in multiple states, you may have tax reporting requirements in each one. ![]() State income taxes vary, and they sometimes include county taxes. That means income passes through the business to your personal finances, where you pay taxes based on your tax bracket. Sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability companies (LLCs), and S corporations use pass-through taxation. The federal corporate income tax rate can change, but for the 2022 tax year, the rate is 21%. If you have a C corporation, your taxable income decides your taxes. Your tax obligations vary depending on your business type. You pay both federal and state taxes unless you live where there's no state income tax requirement. Income taxes are those you pay on your company's profits. ![]() ![]() ![]() For gamers who don’t have the time to nitpick and compare, it can be confusing. The difference in speed, usability and fun was enormous. ![]() Both Cam and Pete - the editors at NSMB - questioned my desire to put together this piece (for obvious reasons now) but I maintain that in reading this review and my first (linked at the top of this piece) it is clear why I feel it is of interest - specifically because it is a bike that few riders on the Shore will ever experience. It would not have made any difference if I had heard from Trek but also to restate the point I've had no communication with the brand. Normally I swap out parts as part of a review and in this case I didn't do so due to wrongly held convictions about the Stache. Maybe I trust my grey matter more than my tin hat, but this never smelled like a sponsored piece to me.Īs I mentioned above I felt the difference after I swapped the brakes, tire, post and fork was such that it directly refuted the conclusion in my first review. ![]() If something you praised and loved in the beginning turns out to be a total nuisance in the long run, tell us about it please. So I say, trust your gut like you did here. Long term reviews focus on the out of the box bike, which lets face it, only lasts for so long in the real world before you begin breaking/replacing/tweaking/tuning as you learn more about the bike and as new things become available. You have first looks, long terms, but very rarely do you have the "I've been living with this bike for a long time and have learned a couple new things about it". But if you have been living with a bike for a long time, your relationship with it is going to change over time and that is a key piece that is overlooked. Separate from the original review or not, I don't really mind so much. I actually wish this was done more often. it is the least pleasing bike I've ridden in years," to now saying "the heart of the fastest descending hardtail I've ridden is Trek's 29+ chassis," I lack confidence in the independence of your revised conclusion. a deal breaker for me" to describing the same design in the re-review as "not enough of a concern to reduce my love for the Stache," it reinforces the impression that NSMB was pressured by Trek here.Īnd, finally, when you go from before saying that "on steeper terrain. So when you go from describing the seat-stay design in the original review as "certainly. Have you ever done that for any other brand's bike? I read a lot of MTB media and I don't remember ever seeing anything similar (and by similar I mean a re-do of a published review, not swapping parts during an initial review.) Your articles are one of the best changes that's occurred around here in the last little while, their an excellent execution of how NSMB manages to generally stand apart from the hype machine froth of the industry without being crusty luddites. I like your gear articles, it's clear that you have a passion for the gear AND riding, and you articulate it well without getting involved in the hype and excitement over the shiny shiny new stuff that many in the industry succumb to. The differences that the fork and brake changes made also help highlight where it's worth spending the dollars on the good stuff (suspension and brakes) and where you can skimp a bit. By documenting the changes you've made you address the limitations of the new wheel formats and how to grab their benefits. It appears that small differences (tire construction for example) seem to be make or break as to whether or not these plus size bikes work well, particularly under experienced riders on aggressive terrain. To me it's particularly interesting because it's about one of the new formats that's cropped up in the last few years. To me it reads like a "real world" type of review - describing how someone who actually bought the bike would modify it to their preferences. In light of the criticism you've received I'd like to voice my appreciation for this article. ![]() ![]() Infant souls are learning to adapt to the human form and to the world around them.
